Yangon: Myanmar has urged the United Nations to reconsider its decision to cut off assistance to fight AIDS and other deadly diseases because of the military government’s travel restrictions on aid workers, official newspapers said Tuesday.

The students who took part in the 1998 student strike and the All Burma Federation of Students Union (Foreign Affair Committee) ABFSU-FAC jointly demanded that the junta release all imprisoned students on the 9th anniversary of the 1998 student strike on August 24.

Bangkok: UN agencies, European governments and international aid organisations yesterday affirmed their com mitment to fighting Burma’s Aids epidemic, despite last week’s decision by the Global Fund to Fight HIV/ Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria to withdraw from the military-ruled country.
