Yangon: Bird flu in Myanmar has been brought under control, and restrictions will be lifted in two affected regions by the end of the month, a livestock official said Wednesday, just days after the U.N. said the situation in this impoverished nation was more serious than originally thought.

Seoul: A consortium of South Korean companies is pushing to join a Canadian company’s copper mine development project in Myanmar, a state-run mining corporation said Wednesday. KOREA RESOURCES CORP. said it and two other South Korean companies signed a preliminary agreement in January with IVANHOE MINES LTD to jointly develop a copper mine in Monywa, central Myanmar.
