A truck apparently carrying Burmese illegal immigrants crashed in Thailand’s Kanchaburi province early on Tuesday, killing one woman and injuring 14 others.
The truck, registered in neighboring Ratchaburi province, crashed into a fence on the Thongphaphum-Sangkla Buri road and spun off the road. The driver fled the scene. Six of the injured are still in Kanchanaburi’s Phahol Polpayu hospital, in Muang district. Another eight were arrested for illegally entering the country, and face deportation. Police Lt-Col Sutin Promsri said none had identification documents, but police had found from similar incidents that the immigrants were Burmese and ethnic Mon and Karen. The body of the 35-year-old woman was due to be cremated at Thongphaphum temple on Thursday.
