The US Ambassador to Burma, Derek Mitchell, will travel to Karen and Mon states on January 11-13 to meet with government officials and representatives of civil society, faith-based institutions, armed groups and political parties, according to an announcement by the US Embassy in Rangoon.
Mitchell intends discussing the developments in the region since ceasefires were signed and the ongoing political dialogue between ethnic armed groups and the Burmese government, the statement said.
This is the US Ambassador’s first visit to Karen and Mon States.
