U Aye Win, the Spokesperson of UN Office (Myanmar) said that Thomas Ojae Quintana, the UN Special Envoy on Human Rights in Myanmar, has canceled his visit to the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) Headquarter in Lai Za, Myitkyinar Township, since the Government did not grant him permission.
Quintana who is now in Myitkyinar had planned to go to the KIO Headquarter after meeting with Regional Government on 14th August. Since the trip was canceled, he spent the night in Myitkyinar.
“We cannot say as this has changed tomorrow’s plan”, U Aye Win said regarding Quintana’s travels itinerary.
There are unconfirmed reports that Quintana met with the KIO on 14th August. He went to meet war refugees in Myitkyinar.
Quintana was scheduled to visit to Rakhine State, Kachin State and Chin State on his 7th trip to Myanmar. He encountered demonstrations by Rakhine locals during his visit to Rakhine State on August 12.
