Speaker of the Myanmar Union Parliament and the Lower House, U Shwe Mann, accepted a special interview by Xinhua News Agency. He commented that Myanmar and China have maintained friendly ties and in the future, Myanmar will continue to maintain and develop this friendly and cooperative relationship.
At the invitation of the chair of the National People’s Congress, Zhang Dejiang, U Shwe Mann will lead a parliamentary delegation to visit China from 8th to 12th this month.
U Shwe Mann said that this visit is to promote friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and China, strengthen the friendly exchanges between the Myanmar parliament and China’s National People’s Congress. “By strengthening our cooperation, we are enhancing the friendly and cooperative relations between us and the Chinese government and people.”
On questions related to Sino-Myanmar economic and trade relations, he said that the economic cooperation between the two countries is good and China remains to be the country with the most investment in Myanmar; “we need to sustain this economic relationship, and economic cooperation and investment will increase”. “The most important thing is that we need to have transparency and be responsible, then our economic cooperation and trade relations will rise.”
U Shwe Mann also was highly complementary about China’s reform. He said that through reform, China achieved development so if Myanmar is to develop, it also must carry out reform. He particularly emphasized that the Sino-Myanmar friendly ties have no reasons to change because of the reform; China is Myanmar’s good neighbor and good friend.
