The head of Myanmar Radio National Service, who is attending the 2014 Bo’Ao Asia Forum in Hainan, China commented during an interview on the 9th that in the digital age, the focus on one type of media is bound to fail and the development of multi-directional media is the only way forward.
On the current development of Myanmar media, he said Myanmar’s newspapers only prospered after the media reform of 2011. Although there are some private broadcasting companies, there is no legal support and they operate in cooperation with the government. The parliament is working on a Broadcasting Law and a Public Service Media Law. The latter has been passed while the former is under discussion. With these laws, Myanmar media will prosper.
