According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on August 11, Myanmar president Thein Sein met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the President’s palace in Naypyidaw. Thein Sein committed to Myanmar’s active participation in the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor.
Thein Sein said that Myanmar and China enjoy profound Pawkpaw fraternity and the close contacts among the leaders of the two sides have maintained a high level of strategic mutual trust between the two countries; the extensive and broad practical cooperation has helped Myanmar’s development and the friendly contacts between the people have further consolidated the foundation of bilateral friendship.
Thein Sein said: Myanmar is pushing forward on national reconciliation, stability and development, and is sincerely grateful for the genuine support from China. Myanmar hopes that China will help Myanmar to develop its agricultural industry, participate in the construction of industrial zones, promote infrastructure development, such as roads and ports, and develop economic cooperation in the border region. Myanmar will actively participate in the BCIM economic corridor development.
Wang Yi said, for a long time, China and Myanmar have supported each other, helped each other through difficulties and become good friends and partners based on mutual trust. Currently, both countries are aimed at national rejuvenation and share the same pursuits and dreams. The two sides will implement the consensus reached between President Xi jinping and President Thein Sein, to promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the future and to link their fates together through common pursuits. The two sides should maintain senior-level exchanges; lead the development of bilateral relations; and forge the BCIM economic corridor into the shining project of the Silk Road Economic Belt. China is willing to encourage Chinese companies to invest in Myanmar, to help Myanmar in its development, to improve the local people’s livelihood, and to create job opportunities. China will also actively participate in the Kyaukpyu SEZ to help realize a new height in Sino-Myanmar mutually beneficial cooperation. China will make full use of its technological, equipment and operational advantages in infrastructure development to support the connectivity projects between Myanmar and ASEAN. China will also help Myanmar in its agricultural and industrial development to promote the modernization of the country and actively strengthen economic cooperation on the border.
