Thirteen prison officials have been suspended from duty after three inmates escaped from Hinthada Prison, according to Myanmar Correctional Department in Ayeyawady Region.
“Three officials, who were assigned to probe the prison break at Hinthada Prison, have already finished their investigation. We plan to submit the investigation report to the director-general of the Department.
The result will be out soon. We are going to take actions against the 13 officials. At the moment, they are being suspended from duty,” said Min Soe, a senior official from the Department.
He denied rumors spreading on the Internet that about 30 prison officials and 15 inmates were under investigation. He also denied they were tortured during the investigation.
The three convicts including a prisoner under trial escaped from the prison at about 4 a.m. on January 21. The police are still looking for the fugitives.
