The Ministry of Rail Transportation has announced that three developers are now in the running for the contract for the comprehensive development of Yangon Central Railway Station, according to the Global New Light of Myanmar on January 28.

Out of nine domestic and foreign companies selected for the project in October, 2014, three companies submitted their proposal documents to Myanma Railways before the closing date for tender submission on January 6.

The ministry has yet to name the companies. The nine developers were selected from 28 shortlisted applicants, including local companies, joint-ventures and foreign companies, including players from Singapore, Japan, China and Canada.

Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation U Myint Thein told the media that the comprehensive development project will cost around US$2-2.5 billion [K2,000 billion-2,500 billion].

A Resettlement Action Plan and the Conceptual Plan for the project have already been drawn up, according to Myanma Railway sources, with the first phase including the resettlement of railway staff families living on the current site and the relocation of railway factories in the area.
